- Hi Lorenzo,
-
- SCSI drives can be setup to switch their motor off after a certain
- time of being not used and switch it on when needed again. There
- should be an option in your HD setup program for it. THIS IS NOT A
- FAILURE. Your first drive propably also would do it if it was 'told'
- to do so by the controller/driver. If it works savely enough, then it
- prolongs the lifetime of your drive, but I would set the time to
- shutdown to at least 5 minutes. In my case to HD didn't spin up fast
- enough for my controller, so the system crashed because the drive
- wasn't found from time to time. But normally (if your controller isn't
- as old as mine) it can be a nice feature, especially if you sleep im
- one room with your computer and do overnight calculations. In this
- case most times the HD is off reducing the noise level remarkably.
